All legislative powers of the General Student Body are vested in the Student Legislative
Council.
The Student Legislative Council has the power and responsibility:
- To be the primary legislative authority with the mandate to enforce this
Constitution and enact legislation by making rules and regulations as may be deemed
necessary and proper for the execution of its responsibilities to fulfill this
mandate;
- To disburse funds collected from the students and earmarked for student welfare;
- To approve and recognize all student organizations in the campus;
- To oversee student activities and ensure the smooth functioning of the Student
Government;
- To advocate student interests and to provide for the student welfare;
- To investigate matters pertinent to the interests of the General Student Body and to
make recommendations about the same to the administration, the faculty and staff,
and the students;
- To provide special attention to the interests of students belonging to weaker
sections; and
- To create offices and positions as it deems necessary for the satisfactory execution
of its responsibilities.
Composition
- One Hostel Legislator from each hostel.
- One Department Legislator (Academic) representing the taught programs of each department.
- One Department Legislator (Research) representing the research programs of each department.
- Four Legislators representing postgraduate students pursuing two-year postgraduate courses in engineering/technology.
- The Speaker shall be the presiding officer of the Student Legislative Council.
