Student Festivals

Some of the most iconic events at IIT Madras are its festivals, which most students get involved with in some capacity-spectators, participants, or organisers. Keep an eye out on smail for volunteer and coordinator applications towards the end of the even semesters, as well as competition announcements during the festival dates.

Saarang

Saarang is a student-run cultural and literary festival that happens in January every year. Previously known as Mardi Gras, the five-day event features concerts by world artists, workshops and lecture-demonstrations from top artists, and creative competitions for students and semi-professional artists. From participation to organisation, there are many ways to get involved with Saarang.

Shaastra

Shaastra is IIT-M's annual student-run technical festival, occurring every January. It boasts of competitions and exhibitions in science and technology fields including mechanics, aviation, computer engineering, entrepreneurship, and social impact. It also features workshops sponsored by industry leaders and lectures and performances by world-renowned scientists, technologists, and other personalities. Shaastra offers many avenues where participants can upskill, compete, and be entertained.

E-Summit

E-summit is the Entrepreneurship Cell's annual flagship summit, featuring events targeted at aspiring entrepreneurs, startups, investors, and visitors. Conclaves, lectures, competitions, internship fairs, investor meets, and networking events are organised for attendees to make the most of the entrepreneurship scene.

Department Festivals

The many departments in the campus host fests that bring together academics and practitioners in their individual streams, with keynote lectures, paper presentations, competitions, and cultural programmes. They range from full-fledged academic conferences to a mix of academic events and festival-oriented events.
