The Student Election Commission (SEC) of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras is the constitutional body established under the IIT Madras Students’ Constitution to conduct free, fair, and transparent student elections. As the official election-conducting authority of the Student Government, SEC is entrusted with safeguarding the democratic process and upholding the principles of integrity, neutrality, and accountability in student representation.
The Commission oversees elections across departmental, hostel, and institute-level bodies, including Freshers’ Elections, Students’ General Elections, SLC Speaker Elections, and Special Elections conducted when required. SEC works to ensure that every election is conducted ethically, efficiently, and in accordance with the Students’ Constitution, established electoral rules, and democratic values.
